Part of the strangeness here is that we were both fighting different groups and I got drops in his group, but he didn't get drops in my group.
I did cast balth aura on him when we first mapped to help with the first devourer, but other than that I didn't cast anything on him at all. I may do some testing tonight to see if he casts a spell on me when we first map if he gets drops after that.

I think you're all insane....it makes 0 sense that you'd get more drops depending on the skills you use. you don't get more drops when you use ignite arrows....

Heh, I used to think that too because sometimes weird things happen. But 30 or 40 drops to 0, I just can't buy that statistically. I'll see if I can find a victim tonight to try it again, I felt bad enough last night with that guy suffering through 2 runs...

I wouldn't mind doing a couple runs with another monk to see if they get drops whether they participate or not...

Few things to note about the loot system.
1) If you are out of radar range no items will drop for you
2) If you are 'unlucky' and receive less drops you will have a greater chance on getting the next drop
3) If you repeatedly 'farm' the same monsters you will have a chance of a 'nodrop'.
1 & 2 are proven by the following test:
Go to a mission like fort koga where you can afford to be 1 player down for the majority of the mission.
Now have one person stay in the start area until you get to the catapult part, then let that player catch up. For the majority of the mission he got no drops but your partners got all the drops. Now when he catches up to the group you will notice this fact. Nearly every item will drop to HIM until he catches up in loot count (doesnt matter if you pick up an item or not, just if it drops for you).
3) can be proven in riverside by just killing white mantle to killing white mantle then undead then white mantle.
I hope this clears at least part of the drop system.

Before the last update my monk took a guildie monk into the UW because she wanted to collect ectos. She didn't attack, but occasionally did a heal party. The loot was pretty much 50/50, she got 2 ectos I got 1.
Last night I did a griffon run and while I was in town someone asked if anyone was hunting griffons so I told him I was. He was a W/Mo so the plan was that he would kill the devourers and I would kill the rest.
Things went ok, but he had to stay just out of aggro range or the griffons would attack him, so typically I would have a bunch of griffons and he would be a bit away fighting devourers and maybe a minotaur or two (not in aggro circle but on the map)
Here is the weird part. He got no drops from the griffons. On one group of 3 griffons, where he got too close and one attacked him he got one item. But over two runs, and me killing 40+ griffons and getting gold/purple/blue/plain items and a bunch of wings he got 50% of the gold and that is it. Not a single item went to him.
I got about 50% of the loot from the minotaurs/devourers that he solo'd.
|
Well then explain this one then:
Just yesterday I was in Sorrow's with one Guildie and a party of henchies and he had to go AFK all of a sudden. No problem, but after a while I started getting bored and decided to just forge on without him (yes, I know that's a horrible pun).
He got all the drops. I'm serious -- ALL of them. And he wasn't back for nearly and hour, so there were A LOT of opportunities for that to change. Never did. It got so that when I was opening chests, I was half expecting that loot to be assigned to him as well!
So anyway, this specifically is not true:

Because stuff was droppping for my buddy while I was miles away.
Maybe it was just something about yesterday.. full moon?
EDIT: Removed my title -- I really think 'random' is still the best description for the various experiences people have had with the drop system in this game.

Odd, I was showing some friends how I would kill griffons. They would die from the first enemy just outside of Augury. They would get some of the drops from the griffons and such that I killed from screens away.
It was like this before and after the most recent update.

In the old times with chests with no keys if you were the only one near the chest and everyone was far away, the loot was yours if you kill a enemy far from your team the loots yours, everyone should have found this out by now. But they gotta fix the dropping the other day in fow, 4 shards dropped and went to 1 guy and 2 rares dropped in the game and they both went to him a chaos axe and shadow bow then we go to obsidian chest out of 5 of us who had keys, 3 get purples 1 gets a crappy gold cesta and the guy whos been getting loads gets a gold sword. After he gets the majority of this he says bye and quits the game. Its pathetic after i was p'd off from that and we lost i joined another group and the first 3 shards that dropped went to me

Once in rpg session I rolled 4th 20s whis is 1/20*20*20*20 chance. or 16 0000 to 1 - and so far I never managed to do it again.

But the chances of getting that 5th 20? 1 in 20! That reminds me of the Time Life book on statistics I read when I was a kid. On one page, there was a picture of a family which included nine boys. It stated the chances of a family having nine boys in a row were about 0.1953125% (1 in 512), but the chances of that family having the tenth child being a boy? 50% of course!
Without the ability to view the hard numbers, the closest we as players can determine the drop ratios is REPEATED forays into the same area with the same group, all under the same conditions. The loot drop experiences most are relating here are single experiences, and not enough to realistically determine a true drop ratio.

The experience works like this now, too.
On my PvP account, I use a +200% Experience scroll and go farming with a guildie in Prophet's/Skyward and if I'm not atleast wanding, I get no experience.
I used to be able to just stand around and leech, before the upgrade.

Something wierd happened to me and my guild. We were doin the glint missions but for the entire trip 95% of all the drops went to one person. So strange, almost every single drop went to one person. This happens continuously over many retries and other missions. Don't understand that.

I used to think that drops only happened if you were the person who actually killed the creature. After a while I completely discounted that theory. A few runs ago, I got drops while Dead, the rest of my team members were still killing. Although that itself was a very skewed run. I figure that I got 60% of the drops on that run - strange...

I am not sure exactly what allows you to get more drops then others I was just on the Alkar quest as War on a 8 person human team I only got 6 drops which were plain crap.
Thats not even the screwy part this is; we had 3 greens drop from 3 different bosses all to the same person!

I dunno.. I get the best drops when I'm playing healer during missions and don't walk into the aggro range of monsters.

It's possible that your level respective to the others in your group may also affect your drop rate. For the last couple of days, I've been helping some lower level members of my guild (all of whom are about level 17 - 18) through the Maguuma Jungle. I was playing a level 20 Monk, and during a run from Druid's Overlook, through the Sage Lands and through to Majesty's Rest, I got a grand total of 3 drops. Seriously, just 3 drops. Everybody else's average was about 9 to 11.
The next night we did the Wilds mission. Better drop rate this time around, about 10 for the whole mission, but it was on average still only about 2/3 of what the others got.
The night after that we went exploring around in Quarrel Falls. It was a pretty dismal night for all of us, with monsters dropping mainly gold and useless white items, but again, I only ended up with a grand total of 5 drops. Our elementalist lucked out that night with nearly 20 drops! (And she's the lowest level of all of us at level 17)
Has anybody else noticed this happening with their characters? Or is it just coincidence?
